This year, Bali’s Nyepi (Day of Silence) falls on Saturday 21 March. Nyepi is a public holiday in Indonesia, and in Bali the entire island shuts down for 24 hours. From 6 am until 6 am the following day, no-one is allowed outside of their homes, there are no cars or bikes on the roads and even the airport is closed. The day before Nyepi, the main street of villages are closed and parades are held. Statues made of bamboo and paper known as ogoh-ogoh are carried through the village and then later burned. Kura-Kura Bus attended the recent “Tourism EXPO 2014 Japan” held in Tokyo from 25 – 28 September 2014. Formerly known as the “JATA Travel Fair”, it is one of the largest travel events in the world. The event is held annually at Tokyo Big Sight, and this year over 150,000 visitors attended over the four-day period.  Kura-Kura Bus was proud to have an exhibition stall at the event, with two Japanese staff, one Russian staff, and the ever-popular Kuramon mascot being on hand to meet members of the public. The 24th annual Bon Odori Bali Festival will be held on Saturday, 6 September 2014. This fun event has been running since 1990, and is organized by the Bali Japan Club. There are many Japanese expats living in Bali and multi-cultural marriages between Japanese and Balinese are common. Bon Odori is a Japanese Summer Festival that celebrates the Japanese culture through traditional dance, games and food.
