  • Feed, chase, or touch wild animals.
  • Remove coral, plants, stones, or natural objects as souvenirs.
  • Use loud music, drones, or bright flashes in ways that disturb wildlife.
  • Leave cigarette ends or other waste in natural surroundings.
Protection of Cultural & Heritage Sites

Do

  • Observe cultural etiquette, modest dress codes, and religious practices.
  • Follow instructions from local guides and site officials.
  • Request consent before photographing people or ceremonies.
  • Support local craftspeople and authentic locally made goods.
  • Choose qualified local guides for cultural interpretation.

  • Climb on, lean against, or damage protected monuments or statues.
  • Mark or deface walls and heritage structures.
  • Enter restricted or sacred areas without permission.
  • Purchase or trade in protected cultural artefacts or wildlife products.
Respect Local Communities & Practice Sustainability

  • Greet residents respectfully and learn a few local phrases.
  • Support locally operated hotels, restaurants, and tourism providers.
  • Save water and energy during your stay.
  • Follow leave-no-trace principles.
  • Join appropriate community or environmental initiatives where available.

Don't

  • Give money or gifts directly to children; support reputable community organisations instead.
  • Engage in inappropriate or exploitative interactions with children.
  • Insist on imported goods when suitable local alternatives are available.
  • Participate in activities that exploit animals, including elephant rides or captive wildlife photo opportunities.
Safety & Compliance

  • Follow safety rules and local regulations.
  • Listen to instructions from guides and authorised site personnel.
  • Know how to reach local emergency services.

Don't

  • Ignore safety warnings about terrain, wildlife, or weather.
  • Confront site personnel who are enforcing visitor safety rules.
