Visiting the Batukaru Ancient Temple was a humbling experience. The temple's significance in Balinese culture is truly remarkable, and it was an honor to witness it firsthand.

Overview

Batukaru Mountain area is one of the most fertile land in Bali, here you'll have the chance to see tropical fruits, spices, vegetables or local flowers. For Balinese, cultivation of land is a creative art and a communal effort, and the people of Jatiluwih have created a true masterpiece that has been passed on for generations. This system called SUBAK has been recognize by UNESCO as heritage system.

Your second stop, after ravelling through thick tropical forest beneath Mount Batukaru, is the remote Temple of Luhur Batukaru. The pristine surrounding usually surrounded by cool mist creates an aura of magic. The temple covered in mold and the ancient design makes it a unique atmosphere that makes this particular temple one of the best places in Bali and to experience its tranquil surroundings.

Pick up at Major Hotel

Pick-up is available from the most centrally located hotels in Kuta, Legian, Tuban, Sanur, Jimbaran, and Tanjung Benoa areas. For other areas with additional charges. Pick-up from other areas is not recommended.

Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

In the fertile volcanic foothills of Batukaru Mountains you'll see an abundance of tropical fruits, spices, vegetables and flowers. It is no wonder that the community here is considered Bali's farming elite. For the Balinese, cultivation of land is a creative art and a communal effort, and the people of Jatiluwih have created a true masterpiece - an endless and intricate jigsaw of finely curved rice terraces in brilliant shades of green, with glistening waters, so soothing to the eye.

Batukaru Temple

Then, travelling through thick tropical forest beneath Mount Batukaru you'll reach the remote Temple of Luhur. For Balinese Hindu's, this site has special mystical powers and only the Besakih Temple is more sacred - an ideal spot to meditate! There is also a 'rest stop' at a local restaurant (meals and drinks are not included).
